These 3 pictures depict different popular British sports and games. The British are a sport-loving nation. Cricket, soccer, rugby, tennis, squash, table tennis, badminton, canoeing and snooker were all invented in Britain. The first rules for such sports as boxing, golf, hockey, yachting and horse-racing also originated from Britain. The most popular sports that people take part in, rather than watching, are angling, snooker and darts.
In the first picture I’d like to draw your attention to the common football. Football began as a contest between neighboring villages. The Football Association drew up the rules of the modern game in 1863 and in 1888 12 clubs joined together to form the first Football League. England won the World Cup in 1966. Football is Britain national sport. It was played there as far back as medieval times. Nowadays it has become the most popular game all over the world. There is no national football team in Great Britain. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their separate football clubs, which compete in European and World Cup matches. English football fans are fond of most exciting games which are held between teams from the same city. In the picture I can see two football-players trying to kick the ball and score the goal. The players are wearing a team uniform. Football-players need to be strong, fit, fast, energetic so that they can trying much and win the game on the football pitch. In the background there are thousands of fans supporting their teams. Football is a dangerous kind of sport.
In the second picture we can see a sportsman playing lawn-tennis. Tennis is another favorite sport of the Englishmen. People all over the world know Wimbledon which is the center of lawn tennis. It is oldest, the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. It takes place over two weeks in late June and early July. Wimbledon is known for its traditions — strict white dress code for competitors, the absence of sponsor advertising around the courts and some others. Every tennis player dreams of taking part at this tournament. The Championships are watched on TV live and at full length by millions of people. In the picture I can see a tennis-player who is carrying a tennis racket in hand. He is traying t push the tennis ball. The tennis-player always wears a uniform. He needs to be strong, fit, energetic, attentive, alert to be able to concentrate and to be able to confident.
In the third picture we can see a sport team playing cricket. Cricket is very much the English game. A match can take five days - and end in a draw. A form of cricket was being played 250 years ago. There are many cricket clubs in Britain. Cricket players wear a certain uniform — white boots, white T-shirt and white trousers. The game is played on a pitch with a wicket at each end. Cricket-players use a leather ball, a willow cricket bat and can be played men and women.
The most obvious similarity is that we can see British sports in all the pictures. Football, tennis and cricket took the origin in GB. All these sports are well-know all over the world. Football championship are organized almost in all countries. Wimbledon is a tennis championship is known worldwide. All the games are played with a ball.
The most important difference between the photos is that we can see various games. Football is a team game. It played in all the country, including Russia. Tennis is not a team game, so it is played by a definite tennis-player representing a definite country. Bur cricket is purely the English game and it is played only in Britain.
As for me I’d prefer to participate in cricket game because it is energetic, emotional, intellectual, enjoyable, but on the other hand it might seem rather dull, boring, tiering because it can last up to 5 days.
To sum up I’d like to say that it is surprising that all great world-famous games such as cricket, rugby, tennis, badminton, canoeing, horse-racing were originated in Britain.
